The Express Entry system is a fast and efficient way for skilled workers to apply for permanent residency in Canada. Launched in 2015, the system is designed to manage applications for permanent residency from skilled workers who want to come to Canada and contribute to the country’s economy.
Express Entry is a points-based system that ranks eligible candidates based on their age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and other factors. The highest-ranking candidates are then invited to apply for permanent residency through regular draws.
There are three main programs under Express Entry:
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
The Federal Skilled Worker Program is for skilled workers who have at least one year of work experience in a skilled occupation and meet other eligibility requirements. The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled tradespeople who have at least two years of work experience in a skilled trade and meet other eligibility requirements. The Canadian Experience Class is for individuals who have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada and meet other eligibility requirements.
In order to apply for Express Entry, you must first create an online profile and provide information about your education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you will be assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on your profile information. Your CRS score will determine your ranking in the Express Entry pool.
The highest-ranking candidates in the pool are then invited to apply for permanent residency through regular draws. The draws take place approximately every two weeks, and candidates who are invited to apply for permanent residency have 60 days to submit a complete application.
